Sustainable Coffee Cultivation in Chiapas

Rast Kaffee and its business partner Finca Hamburgo join forces to strengthen smallholder coffee farmers in Chiapas, Mexico, through training, digital tools, and sustainable farming models that ensure resilience to climate change and create long-term social and economic opportunities in rural areas.

What is the main objective of the project?

The project addresses the twin challenges of climate change and rural depopulation in Chiapas. It aims to build economic resilience and knowledge empowerment for smallholder coffee farmers through training (“Farmer to Farmer”), improved access to resources, and sustainable agricultural practices.

How will the project contribute to sustainable coffee production?

By establishing a local coffee academy, offering training modules on cultivation, processing, marketing, and climate resilience, and developing simple digital tools, the project promotes long-term sustainability. Farmers will improve productivity, quality, and income, while protecting biodiversity and strengthening the local coffee ecosystem.

How sustainable measures are scaled up along the coffee value chain

The initiative follows a Best-Practice and replicable model. Training materials and digital solutions will be designed for easy adaptation to other coffee-growing regions. Finca Hamburgo will act as a regional competence centre, ensuring ongoing capacity building and local ownership beyond the project term.
